Searching for the right person for a data processing job is not that easy. There are job specifications like technical writing skills. Experience may not be that important unless you are looking for somebody to fill in the managerial position. You also have to consider if the person is willing can work full time or part time. The process of hiring can be costly not only in terms of dollars but also in hours and effort.

First, you must specify what tasks are needed to be done. If it is exclusively data entry then the job description should only be about entering data. If it includes interpretation of data, then the person should have good analytical skills. You have to be clear first on what you want to be done. Otherwise you will be hiring somebody who is entirely not fit for the job.

Once you are clear on what particular data processing job your company needs, use your connections. This is especially for small and medium scale business. Ask your relatives, friends, and current employees if they know somebody who fits the job specifications. Chances are they will only recommend people who are indeed capable in handling the job. Of course, you can also hire an executive search firm or post a job listing online. These are tried-and tested methods.

Interviews and examinations are essential in the hiring process. Through these, you can determine if the candidate is overqualified or underqualified. Both are not good for the business. An overqualified employee is likely to be bored with the job while an underqualified one will need more training and supervision.
